'Ganz Grosse Geister (Big Spirits XL)' by Thomas Schutte

Ganz Grosse Geister (Big Spirits XL), 2004
Enamel on cast aluminum
Three figures, each: 16 ft. high (4.9 m)
Collection Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Edlis/Neeson Art Acquisition Fund.

2005.1

With these giant effigies of amorphous beings that recall the rotund icon of travel guides, the Michelin man, Schütte challenges statuary traditions, giving mass and presence to vaporous beings. The three chimeric figures reflect a world of imagination, filled with aliens, ghosts, and goblins.
