Minghua, originally Ancerville, was launched in April 5, 1962 by Charles De Gaulle at St Nazaire, France. She was built for the Compagnie de Navigation Paquet, Marseille, to be used on Marseille-Dakar service. In 1973 Ancerville was sold to The People's Republic of China, renamed Minghua and placed in China-East Africa service. In 1981 she started cruise service from Australia and in 1983 she was converted to hotel and renamed Shekou Sea World. In the 1990's the surrounding area was filled leaving the ship entirely landlocked. The ship has recently been renovated and harbors a four-star hotel and various restaurants and shops.
