Mount Suribachi

Whole island of Iwojima is of vulcanic origin but Suribachi is the only obviously volcanic feature.

Isolating and capturing Suribachi first was the most important goal of the Battle of Iwojima and it was achieved on February 23, 1945, four days after the battle began.
