Description:The whirltower located at the site of the National Parachute Test Center was used to test parachutes by spinning them around on the end of the boom that extends horizontally from the top of the tower. The test center moved to China Lake Naval Weapons Station in the 1970's, and the site is now used as a practice drop zone and for various other military maneuvers.
