These overgrown, former railroad sidings are the only remains of Camp Shanks, the largest World War II Army embarkation camp. The camp housed about 50,000 troops spread over 2,040 acres (8.3 km2) and processed 1.3 million service personnel who shipped out from here, via the Piermont Pier.
Suburban sprawl has eliminated all other traces of the camp.

Very interesting. I always enjoy these types of posts that point out places that were so big and important in their time and which are now only discernible if you know what to look for. Thanks!

Those railroad sidings were jointly used by the Camp and Orangeburg Pipe.
