Grzimek Memorial

Grzimek Memorial (StreetView)
Michael Grzimek (4/12/1934 to 1/10/1959) was a German zoologist, conservationist and filmmaker. Michael and his zoologist father, Bernhard created two award winning films about wild animals. They used the money from the first film to conduct a survey of the number of animals and migration routes in the Serengeti. Their work led to the enlargement of the Serengeti National Park.

Sadly, on January 10, 1959 the plane used in the surveying crashed when Michael hit a vulture. Michael was killed in the crash and buried at this site. Bernhard Grzimek was buried there after his death in 1987.
