Key to the Bastille

Key to the Bastille (StreetView)
The key to the famous French prison was given to George Washington in 1790 by the Marquis de Lafayette who was appointed commander-in-chief of the French National Guard during the French Revolution.

The key is now located in the Central Passage of Mount Vernon.

Thanks! Need to scroll map to left to see the key in the central passage way (vis a vis the stairway to the second floor) Also, Mount Vernon Gift Shop sells a fascinating book "George Washington's Liberty Key: Mount Vernon's Bastille Key."
