On Wednesday 27th March 2024 at 14:03 UTC, Francois ON4LO, a radio amateur from Belgium made contact with Brian N2BTD, a radio amateur from Valley Cottage, NY who was operating from the Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge (KFF-0479) on the 15m amateur radio band. Brian made a total of 50 contacts while he was at the refuge.
The Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge (KFF-0479), is a protected area of 242 hectares in Ultster County, New York. It was established in 1999 to preserve an area of grassland which is important for migratory birds and overwintering raptor bird species.
