St. John’s Church

St. John’ is an attractive church dating from 1845 and is constructed from local slate and igneous rock. It has a simple plan consisting of a 6-bay nave and chancel in one range. There is a north porch and a small west tower. Much of the interior was refurbished in 1893.

Inside the church has an open timber roof. The altar was moved here from Crosthwaite Parish Church and was designed by George Gilbert Scott.

The church is designated as a Grade II listed building by English National Heritage.

St. John’s is an active parish church in the Church of England diocese of Carlisle.
