This is the northern most of two stone arched bridges north of the Snarestone Tunnel on the Ashby Canal. It allowed horses to crossover the canal in the early days of the canal’s operation when horses pulled the narrowboats before the introduction of steam power.

This bridge is the original bride built at the time when the Ashby Canal was constructed.
