Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa was the capital and largest Roman city of the Dacia province in modern-day Romania. The city was created when veterans of the Dacian Wars settled and it quickly received the title of colonia and the status of is Italicum.
The city was eventually destroyed by the Goths. Today the whole area lies in ruins. Among these ruins are several temples, a partly preserved forum and an amphitheatre.
