An important Mayan city, inhabited continuously from ~300 BCE right through to the Spanish conquest.

The modern city surrounds the main features, which include the Kinich Kak Mo pyramid on its massive 4 hectare base (the largest structure on the Yucatan Peninsular) and the smaller Itzamatul pyramid.
