Town of Hallsands washed away in one night in 1917

On a stormy night in January 1917 the fishing village of Hallsands in Devon, England, collapsed into the sea. Today only these ruins remain.

Heavy dredging off the beach for building material to expand the shipyards at Plymouth destroyed the offshore shelf that protected the city from the sea.
