Not to be confused by another ancient city under the same name in modern-day Greece.

This city was an ancient Roman city located in modern-day Jordan. The city had always existed but reached its height during the Roman Empire. Under the command of Emperor Pompey, the Romans took control of the city in 63 BC. The Roman city was built on the site of an already existing city from the Iron Age and Hellenistic era.

The ruins of the city include a theatre, temples, a collonaded street and other Roman buildings. Structures dating back to the Iron Age can also be found at the site.
