A prominent historical landmark from the Civil War Battle of Antietam. Prior to the battle it was an unremarkable small sunken road worn by mostly farmers.

On September 17, 1862 one of the largest conflicts of the American Civil War begun. In three hours of combat, 5,500 soldiers were killed or wounded and neither side gained a clear advantage. The Sunken Road was now Bloody Lane.
