Brown End Quarry is a disused quarry close to the village of Waterhouse. The quarry was the source of limestone form the mid 18th century until it closed in 1950.

Today Brown End Quarry has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific (SSSI) Interest because of its Milldale limestone which is uncommon in the Peak District.

Milldale limestone was laid down in fairly still water at depths of around 300m and is more finely grained the more common Hopedale limestone.
