"The Victorious Charge" by artist John Conway was dedicated on June 28, 1898. Tens of thousands of people were in attendance when it was unveiled.
At the time it was described as the "most artistic monument to the soldiers' dead ever conceived or executed."
Over $130,000 was raised to restore the monument in 2003.
