in 1957 there was a terrible accident on this site, during the final stages of the XXIV Mille Miglia, Ferrari of driver Alfonso De Portago who was traveling at over 250 km/h punctured a tire and skidding onto the edge of the road and hit and killed 11 people including 5 children
