MV Freewinds has been owned by San Donato Properties, a company affiliated with the Church of Scientology, since 1985. The ship travels the world providing high-level Scientology coureses and is an exclusive training center for OT VIII, the highest level of Scientology.
The ship is run by members of the church's Sea Org, who sign billion-year contracts with the organization, and are given room, board, and a weekly allowance of $75.
