Nidum Roman Fortress #1

Nidum was a Roman fortress located in the modern-day town of Neath in Wales. The fortress was originally an Auxilliary fort built in 74 AD from earth banks and wooden structures. The site was abandoned around 125 AD but re-occupied around 140 AD. The site was rebuilt in stone. The site was once again abandoned in 170 AD. The fortress was used once again for a final time between 275 and 320 AD.

Much of the fortress now lies beneath the Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive School where a 2011 dig uncovered gate towers that extended out beyond the walls of the fortress. Some remains can also be viewed sitting between modern houses and roads.
