Old Powder House

Old Powder House (StreetView)
The Old Powder House was constructed in 1703-1704 for use as a windmill. In 1747 it was sold to the colonial government for use as a gun powder magazine.

On September 1, 1774 the governor of Massachusetts ordered his British troops to remove gunpowder from the magazine causing the Powder Alarm. Thousands of Patriots streamed into the Boston area fearing war was at hand.
