Palacio San Martín

Palacio San Martín is the ceremonial headquarters of the Chancery of Argentina, a section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina. The palace is located opposite the Plaza San Martín in the Retiro neighbourhood of Buenos Aires.

The Beaux-Arts palace was built for Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena (and because of that bore the name Palacio Anchorena for years) by the architect Alejandro Christophersen. The works started in 1905 and finished in 1909.

The house was acquired by the Argentine Republic in 1936 and became the seat of the Ministry of Foreign Relations. In 1993, the Ministry relocated and the house became its ceremonial headquarters.

The palace contains many works of art by Argentine and American artists from the 20th century, such as Antonio Berni, Pablo Curatella Manes, Lino Enea Spilimbergo, and Roberto Matta.

From 1994, the house is a national historical monument.
