Puente Hills Landfill is the largest landfill in the United States, rising 500 feet high and covering 700 acres. Though the landfill closed to new garbage in 2013, it produces 30,000 cubic feet per minute of landfill gas which is funneled to the Puente Hills Gas-to-Energy Facility, generating more than 40 megawatts of electricity per day.
