Site of an infamous Butch Cassidy robbery, August 1896 (StreetView)
This building housed the original “Bank of Montpelier” and is the site of an infamous Butch Cassidy bank robbery. August 13, 1896. Butch and two other outlaws were able to escape with sacks of stolen dollars. Only one of the three (a lookout) was ever caught and brought to trial. Butch went on to form the criminally renowned 'Hole in the Wall' gang. Before later vanishing (possibly to Bolivia) as a somewhat enigmatic villain.

The building is now occupied by a museum, but still exhibits a “Bank of Montpelier, Est. in 1891” sign.
