Norwegian cruise ship Stella Polaris was built in 1927 by AB Götaverken, Gothenburg. She was laid up at the beginning of WWII and used by Kriegsmarine mostly as support and barracks ship 1940-45. After the war she continued cruising and after several changes of ownership she was sold in 1969 to International House Co. Ltd., Tokyo and used as floating hotel Scandinavia in Kisho, Japan. Sold to Swedish owners Petro-Fast A/B in 2006 (for continued use as hotel), but sank Sept. 2-2006 while in tow to a shipyard in China in order to be prepared for voyage to Sweden, about 280 n. miles southwest of Tokyo.
