Actually, the footprint seen is of a former 1 mile track. Smaller tracks, including the 1/2 mile were located within the grounds of the mile oval. http://binged.it/yyuJVw
Photos from 1999 just before the track was bulldozed: http://www.stevehardin.com/sanjose.htm
Zoom way out to see the footprint of the former 1/2 mile track. What you see in the thumbnail is a 1/8 mile dirt oval for karting.
The big track was last known as the San Jose Speedway: http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/CA/SanJose.html
This is also the site of the New Jersey Museum of Transportation - Pine Creek Railroad. An old locomotive and a few rail cars are visible in Street View. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_Creek_Railroad
In this scene (http://g.co/maps/smyf8), two guys are changing it to (or from) a Stanford baseball ad.
Of course, Google will update this Bay-area scenery again before we know it. I wish they would spend more time getting the rest of the country in hi-res before re-updating the same areas over and over.
This was done for the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In 2001, a flag was painted here, which is currently visible in Bing's east birds eye view.
Optical illusion. If you click a few scenes to the left, you will see this is simply a person carrying a large item (plastic?, fabric?) to a garbage dumpster.
This news hit me hard today. Two of the players who died once played for the minor league team I follow closely - the Milwaukee Admirals. Robert Dietrich and Karlis Skrastins. I've had conversations with both men. Both great guys. RIP.
Avery was arrested here on 8/5/11. He challenged cops to fight, called them names, and allegedly pushed one of them as they were responding to an excessive noise complaint.
The guy in the dark jersey is Chris Terry. He's a Carolina Hurricanes prospect who had a great season in the AHL minor leagues this season. He should see time in the NHL in 2011-12.
When I leave the casino, I'm usually in the mood to drive my car into a building! If I ever carry out that plan, I'll post it here after it appears in the next Street View update. :)
Not really much of a museum. It's an L-shaped hallway with plaques along each wall honoring the members of the Hall. Still, it's a great way to escape the heat or rain on a summer afternoon for a little while.
"lovely Lake Michigan"? Not an adjective I'd ever use for it. When I want to see a "lovely" lake, I go to one of the many scenic inland lakes in the area.
That map was a bit inconclusive to me, but I'll approve this one. If you zoom in to yours, you can see a bobsled-luge track being built from here to the east. However, the planned location for this venue was changed in 2009, so perhaps you're both right.
A couple of things to know for future submissions...

This airstrip closed in 2004 because it was too short for safety regulations. Recent work to extend the runway has been completed making it 2552 feet long.
If you check this out from different angles, someone stuck branches down a huge hole in the street. Perhaps they came from the tree on the corner with freshly cut branches.
I watched a game here for the first time in about 20 years today. It's very, very rundown. Under the stands, there were "Danger Asbestos" signs near the restrooms, serious water damage along the ceiling, and it looked like it hadn't been swept in years. The field itself was trashed from holding so many football and soccer games in the last few months.
The PA announcer kept calling it "Historic South Stadium". I call it "Neglected South Stadium".
I'm told the USPS is testing a few different electric powered vehicles - new and retrofitted. This truck has obvious wear marks of an older truck (look at the rear step and front bumper), so I'm guessing it's a retrofit. The Clean Air slogan is often placed on the fleet of CNG-powered trucks, so it may not be an electric after all.
