Edith Macefield House

Edith Macefield House (StreetView)
Ballard, WA resident Edith Macefield refused to sell her house to Clark Design Group LLC, which offered her as much as $1 million for her land in order to develop the Ballard Blocks shopping center. As a result, Clark was forced to design the building around her land. Her house was the inspiration for the house in the 2009 Pixar movie "Up".

Macefield died in 2007. She left her house and land to Barry Martin, the construction supervisor of Ballard Blocks whom Macefield befriended before she died in 2007. Her land is now owned by realtor Greg Pinneo, who plans to elevate the structure, use it as his company's office, and create a park underneath.
