After the Firebird International Raceway went out of business in 2013, a new management group was formed to reopen the facility. In June 2013, it was rebranded as Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.
NHRA's national drag racing series has competed here since the track was built in 1983. An agreement was made with the new management group to keep the annual event alive.
In addition to the drag strip, Wild Horse Pass also features a lake for drag boat racing, a road racing course, two additional test tracks, and a track for the Bondurant driving school. The land is owned by the Gila River Indian Community.

I was at this new drag strip today and was not happy the seats are so close togeather me and me son was sitting there and 2 fat guys came and sat next to us and we had no room to sit so we got up and walked all day becouse we could not sit and there was no food there or very little it was not a good day and they only had one big screen for everyone to see butg from where we was on the south side we could not see it so it was a bad day I would not ever go back again an I'm going to tell everyone I can not to go

I'd rather be at a crummy Arizona drag strip in February than to be suffering through a cycle of polar vortices and snow storms. The beauty of an NHRA event is having the freedom to roam the pit area throughout the entire event, so you do not have to be stuck sitting next to oversized fans for the whole day.
