In the early hours of Sunday 12th June 2022, thousands of sheep were drowned in the port of Suakin in Sudan. The incident occurred when the Badr 1 was alongside in the port.

It is claiming that the ship carrying the livestock was carrying many more animals than it was licensed to carry.

The historic port town of Suakin was formerly the main hub for foreign trade from Sudan, but most ships now used Port Sudan which is 40 miles (60 km) along the Red Sea Coast.

The Badr 1 was built in 1973 and has an overall length of 79.8 metres and a beam of 13 metre and is designated as a “Livestock Carrier”.
