Home to the High Court (Can Berga)

Home to the High Court (Can Berga) (StreetView)
In the 16th and in part of the 17th centuries, this magnificent building was owned by the Santacília family. It subsequently passed to the Berga family in 1677, the first owner in the family lineage was Mr. Gabriel de Berga i Santacília. His son, Mr. Gabriel de Berga y Zaforteza, commissioned a radical refurbishment of the house in around 1754. We reach the patio through a rounded arch, which features the Berga family coat of arms, work of the sculptor Joan Deyá. The patio is flanked with baroque-style arches which are very traditional on the island. In 1942, the building was sold to the Ministry of Justice, which continues to own it today.
