An earthquake measuring moment magnitude 6.2 struck the Durand Line between Afghanistan and Pakistan on 6/22/22. The earthquake destroyed hundreds of houses in Afghanistan. According to the USGS, the earthquake measured 5.9 and occurred at a depth of 10 km. It was felt in the southern parts of India, in Pakistan's capital Islamabad and eastern Punjab province, and in Iran. Some factors led to a disproportionate number of casualties for the moderate size of the shock, with at least 1,000 people dead and 1,500 injured, making it the deadliest earthquake in 2022.
