The site of the former Deane Colliery on Wigan Road in Bolton is now the site of a garden centre.

Deane Colliery also known as the Victoria Colliery and the Three Pigeons Pit (the latter refers to the nearby Pub of this name).

The original pit was sunk in 1868 and remained in production until October 1960.

The Pinterest link to this map shows Bolton Corporation Tramways tram No.308 (previously No.8) stuck in the snow on Wigan Road in late January 1940. The Pit Head Gear of Deane Colliery in the background.

No 308 was a four-wheel open balcony car which was not usually seen on Route E to Westhoughton at this time and has been suggested that it was being used as a “snowplough”.
