Lhaviyani Atoll is in the Maldives and consists of 54 islands although only Naifaru (where the capital of the administrative division of Lhaviyani Atoll is located), Hinnavaru, Kurendhoo and Oldhuvelifushi are inhabited.
On Sunday 28th May 2023 Ibrahim 8Q7QC located in the Lhaviyani Atoll (QRA MJ65QK) made contact via the Qatar-OSCAR 100 satellite transponder with Mike G0LJF in England.
The transponder has an uplink on 2.4GHz and a downlink on 100GHz and was a joint project between the Qatar Satellite Company, Qatar ARS and AMSAT (Deutschland). It is on board the Es-hail-2 satellite which was launched in 2018. The satellite is in geo-stationary orbit above the equator at 26 degrees East.
Ibrahim is a native of the Maldives and was not on vacation.
