Approximately 100 meters down this pathway is where, on April 4, 2015, during a daytime traffic stop, Walter Scott was fatally shot by Michael Slager, a North Charleston police officer.
Mr. Scott ran from the scene of the traffic stop, and officer Slager gave chase. He caught up with Mr. Scott, and after brief struggle, Mr. Scott broke free, and ran away again. Officer Slager drew his weapon, and fired several shots, resulting in the death of Walter Scott.
