The Bridge over the River Shetrumji Collapsed

A Gas Turbine being transported to Pipavav from Mudra port has met with an accident enroute. The bridge across the river Kshatrunji near Talaja (49-50 km from Bhavnagar towards Talaja / Pipavav) on the National Highway 8E has collapsed resulting in the Hydraulic trailer along with the Gas Turbine falling into the river.

The subject Gas turbine is a Frame 9FA+e 255MW unit weighing about 280 tons, dimensions of the GT package works out to 11m L x 5.0m H x 5.0m W.

During the transport the 3rd span of the above said bridge has collapsed resulting in the Gas Turbine unit falling into the river bed along with the hydraulic axles and prime mover. The unit is lying on its side, the water depth is about 2-3 meters at the spot. Five members of the transportation crew died in this accident.
