This intersection in Pleasant Hill, Iowa was the scene of one of the most horrific police chase crashes ever caught on dash cam. It was also featured on Worlds Scariest Police Chases Episode 3.
Two local teens stole a riding lawn mover and fled with a black pickup. A police officer gave chase and they barreled down the road going over 90 mph. At the intersection of US-163 and NE 56th St the pickup driver tried to run a red light with fatal outcome. An 18 wheeler plows right into them. Both occupants of the pickup died instantly while the lawn mower was found 50 yards away from the point of impact.
The place has changed over the years and got a third turn light for left-turn cars. But the gas station behind the intersection is very remarkable and the unusual shaped huge telephone pole can also be spot in the video.
If you change the view to the older Streetview photo from 2007 there are still only two traffic lights.
