An explosion was heard in nearby Eagle, Alaska on 27 Sept. 2012.

An area about 20 miles (30km) north of the community is burning underground due to suspected Shale Oils. Sulpur Dioxide gas is noticeable when the wind is from the north. Started about 5 acres in size; now about 30 acres. Another area of historic underground burning is another 20 miles downstream. Mentioned in audio interview.
