The Severn Princess was on of 5 ferries that has been used before the Chepstow Bridge was completed in 1966. The ferry was built in 1959.

The ferry became famous in the Martin Scorsese film about the life of singer/songwriter Bob Dylan, "No Direction Home", showing Dylan at the Aust Ferry terminal where the ferry was in service.

2014 it was decided to restore this unique ferry.
