Ok. We have a definitive answer. |

The "thingy" next to the SR-71 is a http://www.sr-71.org/photogallery/blackbird/d-21/">D-21 recon drone. The base in the photo is Beale AFB, home of the 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing which operated the SR-71 and still operates U-2. |

I have personally seen this aircraft on display there and they must have added the D21 drone within the last few years. It is quite interesting to be able to go right up to it and touch the aircraft itself. |

Anyone know what is the object just to the north in front of the hangar? |
| kjfitz @ 2006-03-20 16:39:52 |
The fuselage and wing dimensions of the object north of the hangar match those of the U-2 straight to the south. I'd say it is a U-2 without wing pods or tail. |

The only other Lockheed M-21 Blackbird is at the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field south of Seattle. It has the D21 attached. There is a cockpit you can sit in too. The mach guage goes to 10 ! |
