Located at the closed RAF Millom.

The prison is focussed heavily on Resettlement and re-integrating prisoners into the community on discharge. Old industries, such as weaving, have been closed and these are being replaced by skills led industries such as timber manufacturing and Construction Industry Training workshops (building, plastering, plumbing and industrial cleaning) – funded through the Custody to Work initiative. The agricultural farm has been reviewed with greater emphasis on horticultural training.

Education and training at Haverigg is an integral part of Resettlement/Offender management and is crucial in reducing the risk of re-offending. At Haverigg we offer a comprehensive range of education and training opportunities, a high percentage of which are accredited with QCA approval. More recent training opportunities are designed to reflect shortages in the skills market, giving learners at Haverigg employment opportunities on release. Educational programmes also reflect national and local needs, particularly in the area of Skills for Life provision.

Addressing Offending behaviour, Haverigg was one of the first prisons to offer PASRO – Prisons Addressing Substance Related Offending – which has become a success, and is hoping to increase the provision of this throughout the next twelve months. We have recently carried out a needs analysis and future provision of offending behaviour courses will ensure that the need identified is met.
