Bruce McLaren's first race car is seen on display at the McLaren Technology Centre.

The 15 year-old boy drove his first race in 1952 at New Zealand's Muriwai Beach. He finished first in his class (750cc) in a hill climb race.

He would go on to be a Formula One driver from 1958-70, winning four times and scoring 27 podium finishes. He won the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans with co-driver Chris Amon. He died in 1970 while testing a Can-Am car at England's Goodwood Circuit.

The racing team that he created continued after his death and would become one of the most dominate Formula One teams in history.
