The US Environmental Protection Agency's contractors were working in the historic Gold King/ Red & Bonita Mines causing a 3 million gallon spill of contaminated waste-water.

Links below have photos & maps; along with reports critical of the EPA's handling of the event.

The spill was possibly caused by the release of an ice plug.
