Gorée island - 'The Door of No Return'

Île de Gorée (Gorée Island; Wolof: Beer Dun) is 1 of the 19 communes d'arrondissement of Dakar. It's a 45-ac island 2 km from the main harbor of Dakar and is famous as a destination for people interested in the Atlantic slave trade, though its actual role in the history of the slave trade is the subject of dispute.

1 of the first 12 sites designated a World Heritage Site in 1978.
