On Tuesday 16th May 2023, Markus 5B/HB9ELZ/P, a radio amateur from Switzerland reached the summit of Κιόνια (Kionia) and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
He made 10 contacts in total working on the 20m amateur radio band.
The summit of Κιόνια (Kionia) is 1416 metres (4646 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
On the summit of Κιόνια (Kionia) there is a fire lookout tower which has had a radar installation added on top.
