Entire Alaskan City of Whittier Lives in One Building

Begich Towers was built in 1952 by the U.S. Army. Currently, the entire population of 218 residents of Whittier, AK live in the building. The mayor's office is in the basement. The building also includes a post office, general store, and video rental store. The school, located next door, is connected to Begich Towers via a tunnel in order to avoid going outside during the harsh winters. The school even has an indoor playground.
