Located within the New York State Fairgrounds, it is one of the few remaining one mile dirt auto racing tracks in the country.

In October, an annual 200 lap race for big-block modifieds is held. In recent years, the track has also held races for outlaw sprint cars and AMA flat-track motorcycles.

Originally a half mile track when built in 1890, it became a one mile track in 1901.

In February 2010, the first outdoor AHL minor league hockey game was held on a rink built in front of the main grandstands. The Syracuse Crunch faced off against thier in-state rival, the Binghamton Senators.
