Kulibaeva is the billionaire daughter of Kazakhstan's president, Nursultan Nazarbaev. Together with her husband she owns the Halyk Bank, one of the largest banks in Kazakhstan. As of May 2014, Forbes ranks her as the second-richest richest Kazakh, worth an estimated $1.8 billion.

She purchased this Lake Geneva mansion around 2009/10 from Rustam Aksenenko, a Russian investor (Escada). According to Swiss media reports, she paid 74.7 million Swiss francs.
