Old Dominion Speedway

Old Dominion Speedway (Birds Eye)
3/8 mile NASCAR sanctioned oval track and a 1/8 mile drag strip. It was originally a 1/4 mile dirt track named Longview Speedway when it opened in 1948. The 3/8 mile oval track was created after the 1952 season. It held seven NASCAR events from 1958-66, with Richard Petty and Ned Jarrett each winning twice.

In 2006-07, the tracks survived the wrecking ball, when a sale of the property to housing developers fell through due to the decline of the housing market. Racing continued until the end of the 2012 season, when the land was sold to developers.

Fortunately, local race fans will soon have a new Dominion Speedway in nearby Spotsylvania. A co-owner of Old Dominion Speedway is creating a 0.4 mile oval track, a 2 mile road course, and a drag strip on a parcel of land near I-95.

Several classes of stock cars raced at Old Dominion on Saturday nights, while the drag strip was used on Friday nights.
