Royal Border Bridge

The Royal Border Bridge is a railway viaduct built to the design of Robert Stephenson which was completed in 1850.

The viaduct is constructed from brick faced with stone which has 28 arched spans. It carries the East Coast Main Line across the River Tweed between the towns of Berwick-upon Tweed, on the northern bank and Tweedmouth, on the southern bank. The viaduct is 659m (2,162ft) in length and carries the trackbed 37m (121ft) above the river.

The bridge has Grade I listed status which meant that in 1989 the electrification gantries that were installed were specially designed to reduce their visual impact.
