Some folks in Sandy Springs are not too happy with The Gambler.

When Cathy and Alan Gottlieb learned that country superstar Kenny Rogers purchased the house behind their backyard, they were so excited.

But one year after the purchase, the couple wishes Rogers had known when to fold 'em and simply walked away from the 7.5-acre Long Island Drive property.

Records show Rogers purchased the property in October 2005 for $2.3 million. Four months later, he was approved by the city to demolish the two-story home that stood on the property and fill in the backyard pool.

During the summer, in accordance with city laws, Rogers workers began cutting down trees on the property. Crews also blasted away granite rock — a process the Gottliebs say shook their whole house — so Rogers could build his 20,000-square-foot home.

And now, instead of building his estate, Rogers has decided to sell the land for $3.95 million.
